The JCC on the Hudson’s 85th Anniversary Community Celebration on June 2nd was capped by an emotional dinner at which honoree Stan Stone, of Ardsley, blew the shofar, and JCC Board Chair Michael Maron, of Dobbs Ferry, announced the start of a “$1 Million in 8 Weeks” campaign to complete the $7 million needed to secure funding to build the JCC’s much anticipated new 75,000 square foot, 6.6 acre campus.

“The JCC is one of the portals, one of the gates that provide access to the Jewish community and to a greater Jewish involvement and identity in the Rivertowns,” said Rabbi Barry Kenter, of The Greenburgh Hebrew Center.  “It is a vital piece in the mosaic that is the Jewish community of the Rivertowns.  In its success, we will all be more successful.”

The golf and tennis event, held at the Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, celebrated the strength of the Rivertowns Jewish consortium by honoring ten who represent the generations of volunteers committed to building Jewish continuity.

“Generation to Generation,” honored Jodi Shapiro and Meyer Grodestsky of the JCC on the Hudson; Ita Giventer and Shmuel Winograd of Rosh Pinah Chavurah; Ariel and Mark Polisar of Temple Beth Abraham; Maya and Dale Glasser of The Woodlands Community Temple; and Stephanie Luftig and Stan Stone of the Greenburgh Hebrew Center.

The JCC on the Hudson, located in Tarrytown, has been part of the community for 85 years, and is as relevant today as it was when it opened its doors in 1929.  Last year, the JCC provided nearly 400 hours of counseling, educational workshops, and referral services; daily childcare programs for more than 200 children; day camp for 350 children; social and recreational programming for more than 500 adults and seniors, and programming for more than 150 family members with developmental disabilities.
